A SENSORY DIARY - STADIUM TO SURF SUNDAY 17TH 2013
This Sunday sees the second Stadium to surf 10 km fun/walk leaving the famous Forsyth Barr Stadium at 9 am! If you’re anything like me you’ll get warning bells when the word “fun” and “run” are used in the same sentence but I can assure you, after doing this walk last year, this really is a fun event. It’s 10 km of predominantly flat terraine that will see you touch two of Dunedin’s great icons – the Forsyth Barr Stadium and St Claire beach! How cool is that?
One of the great things about being blind is that you need a sighted guide to walk with. What this really means is that you have little choice in how you answer the following question : “Are we doing the Stadium to Surf this year Julie?”
OK JO – Why not!!!!!
Here’s my diary from last year:
Smell: the sausage sizzle at the end of the race!
Hear: the sound of the chatter as hundreds of participants stand at the start line!
Taste: the free bottle of Pam’s water and the free apple we got at the end of that race! (when you do it with someone on Weight Watchers the closest you get to those sausages is to smell them!
Touch: the continuous Dunedin pavement that lead a path out to St Claire!
If you haven’t done an event before it’s a great one to say Why not to!
You can register in one of two ways – go online here or hop into any New World store to register. It’s $20 if you register before Friday otherwise you incur a late fee.
I’ll see you there at the start line just before 9 am! Hey- what about my Sunday lie in????
From my world to yours
