Beggs Ski Shop is one of those businesses that have been round forever (since 1956) but you probably never knew. Tucked away in a basement space on what they call Robbie Burns Lane (more commonly known as the car park on the backside of Robbie Burns off Frederick Street) is a great boutique winter sports rental, workshop and retail store.

One of the only specialist winter sports stores in Dunedin they are always kind of open, but officially open their doors around April/May through to October. Historically, part of TL Beggs Locksmith, it is now an independent winter store.  Owned and operated by ski and boarding enthusiasts their main focus is placed on safety and equipping customers  with correctly fitted gear.

As stated on their website they also - "operate a fully equipped specialist ski and board tuning and repair workshop under the supreme ski tuning master Jona Grant, who has decades of industry experience both here in NZ and in the States. Jona’s eye for quality workmanship is second to none and he personally guarantees all repair and tuning work done."

With guarantees like that, it is no surprise they have a large number of families that come to them year after year. Most utilising their great family deal, where they let those who have purchased gear swap them for correctly fitted gear the following season. They understand kids grow fast and they know the importance in regard to safety that gear has to fit to be safe.

With strong links to many of the close mountains Dunedin is lucky to have, they are sure to provide you with good up-to-date information. They cater to a whole range of riders, skiers, families, schools and tourists.  However, they aim to ensure no matter what your skill level is that people enjoy their experience!

Next time you head to the mountain be sure to utilise the convenience of getting the right gear here in Dunedin. Do not get stuck in a queue up on the mountain. Get sorted by the people with the experience right on your doorstep. They cater for any budget, but be rest assured they are always thinking of your safety.

Open 7 days a week unless they are skiing! Their doors are open to all, from around 9am - 6pm.
