THAT'S A WRAP.
iD Dunedin fashion week is all wrapped up for another year, and as I do every year, I thought to myself…”That was the best iD so far.” This is perhaps because I quickly forget how fabulous the previous year's week was or maybe iD is progressively getting better. Unfortunately I only made it along to a few events during the week, two of which are always highlights, the iD International Emerging Designer Awards and the Fashion shows at the railway station. Emerging is always impressive, with innovative young designers across the globe exhibiting their talents and creativity through Avant-garde, wearable works of art. This year there were 31 finalists, from five countries, including three from Dunedin, one of which became the over-all winner…congratulations Rakel Blom from Otago Polytechnic!!!
Equally enjoyable are the iD fashion shows, with designers showing their current seasons ready-to-wear collections. Most of the clothes are available in-stores already, but it’s cool to see them on the runway, but kind of not-so-cool seeing uber skinny models wearing clothes you own, better than you. Highlights of the night were, Milliner Stephen Jones, who was a guest designer this year. His headwear was incredible and totally impractical…unless you're Lady Gaga. Nom*d, Company of Strangers and Undone were also particularly awesome and also happen to be from Dunedin!
