Mint Gallery presents Feedback Loops by artist Becky Cameron.
These latest works continue the exploration of ideas around landscape, subjectivity and memory. Where we are is a part of our identity as well as were we come from; our sense of self evolves through exchanges with people and surroundings.
The charcoal and pastel drawings are based on film footage of journeys round Becky's home town of Dunedin. The works are built up through layers of addition and erasing, one viewpoint overwriting the next. This reflects the way we come to know places, and ourselves, with traces of the past influencing the present. Other works in the show are syntheses of drawings made whilst travelling and memories of those journeys - the loops of memory, imagination and feelings overlap and interact.
