Tucked away on Lower Stuart Street you will find a little shop filled with a fine assortment of wines, craft beers, ales and fine spirits with two characters who are not only great friends but they have a lot of similarities and of course fine wines and craft beers are at the top of the list followed closely by music. I thought it was time I spread the word about this little gem of a shop which brings me fondly to this weeks ‘Local Food Hero’.

Castel MacAdam isn’t exactly new to Dunedin their shop has been at this location since 2009 and before that Darren had a premise in Mornington.  What I like about these guys is that they do what they love and that reflects in their passion for fine wines, beers and spirits.  Alistair and Darren both have huge knowledge in this field and that is certainly a plus for any wine or beer enthusiast as you can really get an insight into the many varieties available before you buy.

They also have the adjoining premise next door which is the Taste Merchants.  During the day this is a cool café and in the evening it has been used for tastings, live gigs (this is another passion) art shows and more.

If like me and you appreciate a fine drop here and there, but are sometimes a little overwhelmed and often wondering where to begin or what goes best with what?  Then I strongly urge you to stop by Castle MacAdam Wines as you will be pleasantly surprised and impressed with their impressive array and immense knowledge and what I personally like is that they are not ‘wine’ snobs!  Thanks guys!
