The Revitalised Esplanade
This morning we enjoyed a coffee at the recently refurbished Esplanade in St Clair. The Esplanade describes itself as a 'beach side Italian inspired eatery serving wood-fired pizza, pasta and small plates', unfortunately we had another meeting and couldn't stay for one of their already infamous pizzas.
The atmosphere of the place is amazing even on a relatively quiet morning. You would be hard pressed to find a better view than the one out of the Esplanade's big windows as the local surfers wander past.
The sun streamed into the restaurant as we sipped our coffees. The owners of the restaurant have meticulously thought about the details of the fit out; from the vintage surf photographs that line the walls, to the quality of the crockery to the graphic design of the menus and signage along with touches of Italian flair. Speaking of Italian flair, two Italian chefs ensure the authenticity of the food served to the Esplanade's customers. Local and imported ingredients are used to create their artisanal pizzas, the 5 Stagioni flour used in the base creates a beautiful texture and taste. The pizzas are not overloaded with topping, instead the focus is on simplicity, the toppings are modest, fresh and bursting with flavour.
I'll be going back regularly for beers and pizzas and to watch the ocean. It's encouraging to see a place pushing the boundaries and sticking to being authentic, hopefully they challenge a few locals tastebuds and win the support they deserve!
