Established in 1999, Carlson could be considered an institution within the Dunedin fashion industry, revered for their fine tailoring and impeccable finishes, this label appears to be going from strength to strength. Carlson is a label synonymous with luxury and style and the woman who gets to hang out with these beautiful clothes each and every day is the George St store manager, Debbie Lundy. I asked Debbie a few questions about what she enjoys most about living in Dunedin.

Where are you originally from? I was born and brought up in Dunedin.

What do you enjoy most about living here? The lifestyle. It’s a great place to bring up a family and I also love what the students bring to the city, which is a cool, fun vibe.

Where’s your favourite place to eat? Kiki Beware because it has a fun friendly atmosphere and great coffee.

Where’s your favourite place to go for a drink? Ra Bar-Beth’s fabulous.

Where’s your favourite place to shop other than Carlson? Butterfly’s op-shop, because I always find a special little treasure there.

Who’s your favourite Dunedin designer? Carlson is my favourite by far, however I’m really not into designer clothes, I love beautiful vintage the most.

Why do you think Dunedin has such a thriving fashion scene? The Polytech fashion school is huge for Dunedin and the students add fresh input into the city, which I think encourages people to have more fun with their clothing.

Where’s your favourite place to go on a sunny Sunday afternoon? Long beach or Aramoana, the sand hills at Aramoana are great fun.

What’s Dunedin’s best-kept secret? All the hidden little beaches, where you can get close to the wildlife

If you could describe Dunedin in one word, what would it be? Friendly.
