MintSix a very cool homewards and design store in Roslyn run sisters Ella Murdoch and Talia O’Connor. The pair have returned to Dunedin after trotting the globe and opened a store to showcase some of the amazing objects they came across in their travels.
MintSix is a beautiful little store, when you step inside it feels like you’re walking into a spread from the glossy pages of a home and design magazine. The store’s aesthetic is an eclectic mix of minimalist ceramics, African wall art, colourful checkerboard bed linen, pastel coloured Moroccan pouffes, very cool washable paper bags and an array of other products to help you achieve a stunning interior fit for a Pinterest board at your home.
We asked Talia a few questions about MintSix to get to know the business a little better.

What was your background prior to opening the store?
Prior to opening the store my sister and I were based overseas. Ella was in Beijing, China and I was in Melbourne, Australia. We are both teachers and have worked in International Schools which has allowed us to travel fairly extensively and ignited our interest in design and homewares.
Can you describe what you've tried to achieve with the store fit out and why Roslyn?
We knew we wanted a clean white base so that all eclectic, colourful range of products would stand out. We also wanted to create a 'home' type of environment. We have created mini bedrooms, living zones & a kitchen area so customers can see how products can be used 'in-situ'.
What is your favourite place in Dunedin?
I love the Peninsula. I grew up there and have great memories of sliding down the sand dunes at Sandfly Bay and spotting penguins on the beach.
Why did you open the store in Dunedin?
We grew up here and have returned after many years with our young families to enjoy Dunedin and all it has to offer.
What's the next step for your business?
To continue growing the styling arm of our business. This includes interior design, pre-sale & event styling.
